10% PCs Run Windows 7 : Fastest Selling OS in History

Microsoft reported its record third quarter revenues of $14.50 billion for the quarter ended Mar. 31, 2010, a 6% increase from the same period of the prior year.
Windows 7 continues to be a growth engine, but we also saw strong growth in other areas like Bing search, Xbox LIVE and our emerging cloud services,” said Peter Klein, chief financial officer at Microsoft. “Our record third-quarter revenue along with continued rigor on cost management resulted in exceptional EPS growth.”
Windows revenue was up 28% compared with the same quarter a year earlier, driven by strong demand for Windows 7. More than 10% of all PCs worldwide are running Windows 7 today, making Windows 7 by far the fastest-selling operating system in history.“Business customers are beginning to refresh their desktops and the momentum of Windows 7 continues to be strong,” said Kevin Turner, chief operating officer.confirms that “Exactly 6 months after the launch on October 22, 2009, we’ve sold well over 100 million licenses of Windows 7. To put that in context, more than 10% of all PCs worldwide are already running Windows 7 today.”Last year you could download the Window 7 release candidate free to test and try. Now you can download the upgrade advisor and see if you can upgrade your Windows Vista to Windows 7. And if you are already on Windows 7, download the Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 for touch enabled devices. I guess all those Windows 7 parties worked in selling out Windows 7.

No More Http In Google Chrome

Many Internet users load websites by entering the prefix http:// and the URL of the domain in the address bar of the web browser. This is a standard that has been there since the invention of the World Wide Web. But http is in fact not needed to load websites. Removing it from the query will load the website just as fine. It reduces the time it takes to open a website as well.
The developers of Chromium, the open source browser project that builds the core of the Google Chrome web browser, have started removing http:// from the address bar of the web browser.
Even if users enter an URL with http:// it will not be carried over and removed instead from the browser’s address bar.
The http:// is hidden from the user’s view. Users who copy and paste an URL will notice that it will be added to the URL automatically.
All other prefixes like https or ftp remain untouched and are still displayed in the browser’s address bar. This is especially important for https connections which give the user a heightened sense of security.
A globe icon is displayed next to the URL now that visualizes the http:// prefix now.
The change is problematic from a usability standpoint especially since all other web browsers on the market display http:// normally.
Another issue that came up is that it is now not possible to only copy the host-name (e.g. www.example.com) as the http:// will always be added to the string when copied.
The change is only implemented in the latest developer builds of Google Chrome. The developers have however stated that they won’t revert the changes which mean it is likely to hit the beta and release builds of the browser in the near future. What’s your take on the change?

Add Copy To And Move To Options To Right Context Menu

After reading this post completely,you will be able to know how to add copyto and moveto options to drop down menu when you right click in any file using Browse to dialog box.
First we will add the copy and move options to the right click menu of all FILES.

CLICK Start>Run, type REGEDIT and click OK to open up the registry editor and make your way to this key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

Right click the ContextMenuHandlers key and choose New>Key.
Name the new key “Copy To” (without the quotes).
Repeat the above and create another new key named Move To.

You should now have two new subkeys under the ContextMenuHandlers key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Copy To
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Move To

Select the Copy To key and in the right hand pane, double click “Default”
Enter this clsid value as the value data:

{C2FBB630-2971-11d1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}

Next , select the Move To key and in the right hand pane set the default value to:

{C2FBB631-2971-11d1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}

This now takes care of the Copy and Move options for the right click context menu of all your files.
Now all that is left is to add the same options to the right click menu of all your folders.
The procedure will be the same as for files but at a different key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHan dlers

Right click ContextMenuHandlers and create a new key named Copy To.
Right click it again and create another new key named Move To.

left click on the right hand pane, add the same default values as you did for Files:

For Copy To:
{C2FBB630-2971-11d1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}
For the Move To:
{C2FBB631-2971-11d1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}

Exit the registry and you are done.

Now when you right click on a file or folder, you should see two new options: Copy to Folder and Move to Folder

Add/Remove Optional Windows Components

For some or other reason, Microsoft has removed the ability to specify which Windows components you want to install during interactive Setup, and when you go into Add/Remove Windows Components in the Control Panel, you still don't have the full list of applications you can add and remove. Thankfully, this is easy to fix.

To dramatically expand the list of applications you can remove from Windows XP after installation, navigate to C:\WINDOWS\inf and open the sysoc.inf file. Under Windows XP Professional Edition RC1, this file will resemble the following by default:

[Version] Signature = "$Windows NT$"
DriverVer=06/26/2001,5.1.2505.0

[Components]
NtComponents=ntoc.dll,NtOcSetupProc,,4
WBEM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wbemoc.inf,hide,7
Display=desk.cpl,DisplayOcSetupProc,,7
Fax=fxsocm.dll,FaxOcmSetupProc,fxsocm.inf,,7
NetOC=netoc.dll,NetOcSetupProc,netoc.inf,,7
iis=iis.dll,OcEntry,iis.inf,,7
com=comsetup.dll,OcEntry,comnt5.inf,hide,7
dtc=msdtcstp.dll,OcEntry,dtcnt5.inf,hide,7
IndexSrv_System = setupqry.dll,IndexSrv,setupqry.inf,,7
TerminalServer=TsOc.dll, HydraOc, TsOc.inf,hide,2
msmq=msmqocm.dll,MsmqOcm,msmqocm.inf,,6
ims=imsinsnt.dll,OcEntry,ims.inf,,7
fp_extensions=fp40ext.dll,FrontPage4Extensions,fp40ext.inf,,7
AutoUpdate=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,au.inf,hide,7
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7
msnexplr=ocmsn.dll,OcEntry,msnmsn.inf,,7
smarttgs=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,msnsl.inf,,7
RootAutoUpdate=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,rootau.inf,,7
Games=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,games.inf,,7
AccessUtil=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,accessor.inf,,7
CommApps=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,communic.inf,HIDE,7
MultiM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,multimed.inf,HIDE,7
AccessOpt=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,optional.inf,HIDE,7
Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,HIDE,7
MSWordPad=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wordpad.inf,HIDE,7
ZoneGames=zoneoc.dll,ZoneSetupProc,igames.inf,,7

[Global]
WindowTitle=%WindowTitle%
WindowTitle.StandAlone="*"

The entries that include the text hide or HIDE will not show up in Add/Remove Windows Components by default. To fix this, do a global search and replace for ,hide and change each instance of this to , (a comma). Then, save the file, relaunch Add/Remove Windows Components, and tweak the installed applications to your heart's content.

Adding Custom Sound Event In XP

Add Album Art to any Music Folder

One of the coolest new features in Windows XP is its album thumbnail generator, which automatically places the appropriate album cover art on the folder to which you are copying music. But what about those people that have already copied their CDs to the hard drive using MP3 format? You can download album cover art from sites such as cdnow.com or amguide.com, and then use the new Windows XP folder customize feature to display the proper image for each folder. But this takes time you have to manually edit the folder properties for every single folder and you will lose customizations if you have to reinstall the OS. There's an excellent fix, however.When you download the album cover art from the Web, just save the images as folder.jpg each time and place them in the appropriate folder. Then, Windows XP will automatically use that image as the thumbnail for that folder and, best of all, will use that image in Windows Media Player for Windows XP (MPXP) if you choose to display album cover art instead of a visualization. And the folder customization is automatic, so it survives an OS reinstallation as well. Your music folders never looked so good!

Album cover art makes music folder thumbnails look better than ever!

5 Ways To Change Password Of Users In Windows XP

Using Ctrl Alt Delete
This is the easiest one in my opinion. If your press Ctrl Alt Del when you are logged onto your Windows XP machine, it will show you the classic security options.

Select change password and change the password of the logged on user.
Note: If the security options does not appear. Task manager shows up instead of the security options. Just go to Start>>Control Panel >>User Accounts>>Change the way Users Log on or off.
Uncheck Use the Welcome Screen. Log off and logon again. Now pressing Ctrl Alt Del will show the security options window.
Using Control Panel
To change your password using Control Panel, go to Start>>Control Panel>>User Accounts
Tip: You can also open control panel by Start>>Run>>control. This will open Control Panel.
Select the user for which you want to change the password and select Change my password.

Please note that you may need appropriate privileges to change the password of another user.
Using Command Prompt
To change the password of a user from the command prompt, go to Run>>cmd.
Command prompt will open. Use the following commands to change the password:
net user username password /domain
Replace username with the original username and password with the new password you want to assign to that user. /domain is optional. If you are in a domain environment, specify the domain name otherwise, if you’re using a local user, leave /domain. If I want to change the password of user Sanix to 12345. I will issue the following command at command prompt:
net user Sanix 12345
It will change the password of the user Sanix to 12345. Please note that if you’re not logged on as an administrator, you will get the following error:
“System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied”

Using Control userpasswords2
To use this classic user management, go to Start>>Run>>control userpasswords2
This will open the classic user accounts management window. Select any user and select reset password.

Using Computer Management Console
To use the computer management console to change the passwords of the users, right click My Computer>>Manage>>Local Users And Groups>>Users
Right click the username for which you want to change the password and select Reset Password.

If you have any other method of changing the password, please let me know through comments. Thanks.
